Summary
These tours are for people who are coming to Sofia and would like to squeeze in their busy work schedule a morning, an afternoon or a whole day of birdwatching. You have the choice of visiting the two hotspots in one day or just one of them. A quick escape from the overcrowded streets of our capital can take us to the tranquility of the spruce forests of Vitosha Nature Park and/or to the noisy reed beds of the biggest Bulgarian Karst wetland – the Dragoman Marsh.
Itineraries
1. Vitosha Nature Park (whole day trekking & birding)
Transfer from the town of Sofia to Vitosha Nature Park, where a stroll in the spruce forest and the alpine zone will ensure observations of the Black Woodpecker, Rock Thrush, Pallid Swift, Black Redstart, Crag Martin, Ring Ouzel, Water Pipit, Common Crossbill, Nutcracker, Goldcrest and Firecrest and other mountain specialties.
2. Dragoman Marsh (whole day birding & leisure walking)
Transfer from the town of Sofia to Dragoman Marsh (only 35 km west of the Bulgarian capital). Here the species list comprises not only water-connected birds as Bittern, Little Bittern, White and Black Storks, Garganey, Pochard, Ferruginous Duck, Great Reed, Reed, Marsh, Savi’s and Sedge Warblers and many others, but also birds breeding in the adjacent Karst terrains, namely – Short-toed Eagle, Long-legged Buzzard, Ortolan and Black-headed Buntings, Isabelline Wheatear, Lesser Grey Shrike, Short-toed Lark etc.
3. Combined tour (half day – Vitosha Mountains, half day – Dragoman Marsh)
This trip combines the advantages of the other two trips, although not providing a detailed overview as they do separately! However the trekking part will be shortened but still the highlights remain almost the same!
Group size required for each of the trips: 1-6 pax
Price: 80 euro
The price is per person and includes:
private transport, fuel as per itinerary, local guide (English-speaking).
